The internet is a wild place. It is all too easy to get confused and fail to differentiate reality from hype. Margaret Mead, an anthropologist, once said "Children must be taught how to think, not what to think." The only part of this I disagree with is that is says "Children". Everyone should learn critical thinking skills. Then, rather than being taught what is true, we learn the "how to think" process, which can help differentiate hype from reality.
We are bombarded with news, information, and "facts". AI will only increase this bombardment, with more profound impact. Learning how to get to what is really the facts is becoming more and more critical.
To me, this is the most important life skill anyone can learn in the 21st century, and especially when planning to use AI. That is why all good AI training should start with teaching students to think.
An important part of this learning is ensuring our thought processes are open minded and skeptical, rather than closed minded and cynical. Interestingly, it's important to note that doubt, skepticism, open-mindedness and gullibility are vital concepts to understand.
And that helps to make AI use so much more effective. Reach out to us to learn more, and share your thought below.
